Which Starlink Should You Buy? Mini, Mini X, V4 and V4 X Compared

Starlink delivers broadband internet through a constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites. Because the satellites are close to Earth, latency is much lower than with traditional geostationary satellite internet, and the service works in places where cables and cell towers do not reach: cabins, farms, boats, construction sites and field operations. Choosing the right terminal comes down to where you will use it and how you will power it.

1. Start with how you will use it

  • Carry it with you (travel, camping, vehicles, field teams): choose a compact terminal.
  • Fixed installation (home, office, house in the country): a standard terminal with a full router is the simplest choice.
  • Demanding or mobile business use (marine, remote sites): look at the Performance class.

2. The models in our catalog

Starlink Mini

The compact option. It is small enough to carry in a bag and is built for people who need a connection that moves with them. Good for travel, backup internet and light field use.

Starlink Mini X

An ultra-portable terminal, the lightest and smallest in the lineup. It has IP67 protection against dust and heavy rain, very low power consumption, and can run from compatible portable power stations or power banks, which makes it a natural companion for off-grid setups.

Starlink V4 (Standard)

A standard terminal for homes, country houses and offices where there is no reliable wired internet. Choose it for a permanent installation with a clear view of the sky.

Starlink V4 X (Gen 3)

The newest design: slimmer and more portable, without a built-in motor, and with an integrated kickstand for stable placement. It offers a wider 110° field of view, IP67 weather protection and a router with two LAN ports and Wi-Fi 6 for connecting many devices at once.

Starlink Performance Gen3 Terminal Kit

A kit aimed at demanding use in marine, remote and mobile operations. It includes the Performance terminal, a pipe adapter mount, an advanced power supply, a performance cable, AC/DC power cables and an Ethernet cable.

3. What does 'no account' mean?

Terminals sold as 'without an account' do not come with an active subscription or a registered user. This does not mean you can use the hardware without service: you still need a Starlink plan, and you should check that the terminal can be registered to you and that the service is available in your region. Always confirm the exact contents and specifications of the version you are buying before you order.

4. Placement tips for a stable connection

  • Open sky matters most. Trees, buildings, roof edges and poles can interrupt the signal. Test the location before you fix the terminal permanently.
  • Keep it stable. A firm mount or kickstand prevents movement in wind.
  • Plan your power. For off-grid use, check the terminal's power draw and make sure your power source can supply it for the time you need.
  • Protect the cables. Route and secure them so they are not stretched or pinched.

5. Quick recommendation

  • Travel and backup connection: Mini or Mini X.
  • Home or office: V4, or V4 X for Wi-Fi 6 and two LAN ports.
  • Marine, remote sites and professional mobile use: Performance Gen3 kit.
