LiPo Battery Safety and Storage Basics

LiPo batteries give FPV drones their power, but they need respect. These habits keep you and your gear safe.

Charging

  • Use a proper balance charger and the right cell count.
  • Charge at 1C unless the battery label says otherwise.
  • Never leave a charging battery unattended, and charge on a non-flammable surface.

Storage

  • Store at about 3.8 V per cell, not fully charged or empty.
  • Keep packs in a cool, dry place, ideally in a fire-resistant LiPo bag.

Flying

  • Land when the pack reaches about 3.5 V per cell under load.
  • Let the pack cool before charging.

When to retire a pack

Stop using a battery that is puffed, damaged, or has a cell that no longer holds voltage.
